My name is Richard Cohen, I'm 27 and I live in Vancouver with my wife Carla. We got married in April 2006 and then moved out to Canada in November the same year. I work as a virus researcher for Sophos, a computer anti-virus company, while Carla works at the British Columbia Cancer Research Centre.

We're both originally from England (Carla's from Bishop's Stortford near Stansted airport, and I'm from the Barnet/Whetstone/Finchley area in North London), and before we moved we were living in Oxford while Carla finished her Pathology DPhil (ie PhD), based in and around Wolfson College, Oxford.

I graduated in July 2002 from Christ's College, Cambridge with a 2:1, having studied Engineering there for four years under the Electrical & Information Sciences Tripos. My final year project was on the Automatic Transcription of Musical Signals. Before that I went to school at the Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School (HABS) in Elstree. Though I didn't know them, I must have overlapped with Sacha Baron-Cohen (aka Ali G & Borat) and Matt Lucas (from Little Britain).

As you may have guessed from the backdrop I play the Double Bass, and I led the section in the main Cambridge University Music Society orchestra, as well as the Hertfordshire County Youth Orchestra and a variety of other colleges and amateur orchestras. I haven't brought my double bass to Canada, and Carla hasn't brought her cello, though we keep toying with the idea of buying some for the duration of our stay.

On top of playing in orchestras, we also try to go to concerts. In England we regularly attended the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, a 9-week series of concerts every summer in London where you can see world-famous performers for a flat-rate of £5 - you have to queue on the day to get them if you're a day-tripper like me, but you get to stand in the Arena where you get the best sound in the hall.

On a differeny musical theme we also like going to gigs and festivals, including V, Reading and Glastonbury, with plans to go to the V Festival in Vancouver this year (Richard Branson's plans for global domination coming at an opportune time for us). Particular highlights have included Ben Folds, Muse, Foo Fighters, Feeder, Scissor Sisters, Barenaked Ladies, the Bluetones, Belle & Sebastian Divine Comedy, Ash, Paul McCartney, Franz Ferdinand, the Kaiser Chiefs, Oasis, Badly Drawn Boy, Athlete, Arctic Monkeys, Morcheeba, Jamie Cullum, the Datsuns, Maroon 5, Sister Sledge & James Brown.

I'm also something of a film buff, some might say freak, and have tried to pick out my favourite films. You might think I haven't narrowed it down all that much, but when you consider all the films I've seen (a list I made one holiday for a dare), you'll see I've done my best.

There's probably more I could say, but you probably know me already if you've got this far, and you're probably just looking for the photos section. I don't know why you might want to see it, but here's my CV, though it's not up to date with my move to Canada. But anyway I'll let you go find a more interesting part of this site.

Chance would be a fine thing.
